Due to its very low internal resistance, the AGM series is particularly suitable for high current discharge operations such as inverters, thrusters, and winches. The j EL model offers the best deep cycle durability and provides a longer service life. The use of completely pure materials and lead calcium grids reduces the tendency of AGM and gel products to self-discharge, delaying their discharge even when not charged for a long time. Both product lines are available with M8-hole, flat copper terminals that provide the best possible connection contact and eliminate the need for battery terminals. The batteries are supplied in ABS fireproof containers conforming to CE and UL specifications and are backed by Victron's worldwide 2-year warranty.
1. VRLA Technology
VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) means batteries are sealed. The gas only escapes through the safety valves in case of overcharging or cell failure. VRLA batteries do not require lifetime maintenance.
2. Sealed (VRLA) AGM Batteries
AGM is an abbreviation for Absorbent Glass Mat. In these batteries, the electrolyte passes through the capillary tube and is absorbed into a glass fiber between the plates. As we explained in our book "Energy Unlimited", AGM batteries are more suitable for short-term very high current supply operations (engine cranking) than gel batteries.
3. Sealed (VRLA) Gel Batteries
Here the electrolyte is immobilized as a gel. Gel batteries generally have a longer service life and higher cycle capacity than AHM batteries.
4. Low Self-Discharge
Using lead calcium grids and high purity material, Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for long periods of time without needing to be recharged. The self-discharge rate is below 2% per month at 20°C. Self-discharge doubles for every 10°C increase in temperature. Victron VRLA batteries can thus be stored for up to one year without being recharged if stored in cool conditions.
5. Unique Deep Discharge Recovery Feature
Victron VRLA batteries have a unique discharge recovery feature, even after deep or prolonged discharge. However, it should be noted that repeated deep or prolonged discharges have an extremely negative impact on the service life of all lead acid batteries and Victron batteries are no exception.
6. Battery Discharge Features
The nominal capacity of Victron AGM and Gel Deep Cycle batteries corresponds to 20 hours of discharge, in other words, a discharge current of 0.05 °C. The nominal capacity of Victron Tubular Plate Long Life batteries corresponds to a discharge of 10 hours. The effective capacity decreases with increasing discharge current (see Table 1). It should be noted that the decrease in capacity will be even faster if there is a constant power load, such as the use of an inverter.
